thoughts actions being One day I overheard a singularly wise knowledge drop. While three bites into a chocolate glazed. A white guy, balding, wearing a Harley-Davidson leather vest; and a woman with long, black hair, whom I guessed to be ethnically Chinese; were in the midst of a not-quiet, the-whole-store-could-hear conversation. Whether they were long-standing friends or locationally-close acquaintances I could not tell. The biker spoke/ yelled from his yellow, chipped booth across the aisle to her in hers. Only the shop owner, busy doing something, was also in the store. Greenback Lane outside, its clumps of vehicles rolling by, twenty feet away and broadly visible through the plate glass. The donut I ate was good but not nearly as good as I remembered chocolate grazes being. "You have to be honest to yourself" said the biker to his friend; and, probably unknowingly, to me. You have to be honest to yourself. Of course, you do not have to be honest with yourself. I am rather sure that sometimes I am not. But let's go to the idea/ probable intent of his sentence: that it is good to know oneself, and to live from that knowing. With that I often/ typically/ usually whole-heartedly agree. Generally. I altered his sentence in my head: you would be smart to be honest to yourself. I would be smart to be honest with myself, honest in my history, habits, intentions, goals. True enough. But how does one know oneself to be honest with? And why be honest? You, of course, have your own story and your own measure of honesty. How are they going for you? LukeyoutheU is a collection of stories. Many stories. Perspectives. Stories are how I/ we understand life. Read them, listen to them, consider them as you wish. If you do, they can help you in your own honesty. They can help you to be, to better be, and better become. That's the pitch. -do you check out the site's menu? contents -LyU's books? -listen to an episode, episodes, or series of the podcast? -scrutinize the photo? -scroll down further to investigate the footer? -leave? |

I altered the sentence in my head to you would be smart to be honest to yourself, because, let's face it, as adult there are not that many things you have to, must-this-very-instant do—but the import remains the same. I would be smart to be honest with myself, I told myself. Honest in in my history, habits, intentions, goals. But how does one know oneself to be honest with? And why be honest? You, of course, have your own story ane your own measure of honesty. How are they going for you? LukeyoutheU is a bunch of stories. Many stories, perspectives, understandings of this thing called life. Read and consider them if you wish. They can help you to be, to better be, and better become.
